Monday Morning Message

Legislative Committees

House Appropriations

Subcommittees for each of the budget articles were named on Thursday. The Article III subcommittee (Education) membership includes:

Rep. Trent Ashby, Chair
Rep. Helen Giddings, Vice Chair
Rep. Donna Howard
Rep. Marisa Marquez
Rep. Dade Phelan
Rep. John Raney
Rep. Gary VanDeaver

The subcommittee will begin meeting this week on Monday, February 16th at 7:30 am with a Legislative Budget Board overview of higher education and testimony from the Higher Education Coordinating Board. We expect that community colleges will appear before the subcommittee next week…likely on Monday, February 23rd.

Senate Finance

The committee continues to meet and hear testimony related to agency budgets. Community colleges are scheduled to appear before the committee on Tuesday, February 17th at 9:00 am in E1.036 (Senate Finance Hearing Room). Leadership from TACC and CCATT will provide testimony on the community college budget request.

House Higher Education

The committee is scheduled to hold its first hearing on Wednesday, February 18th at 8:00 am in E2.014. The committee will organize and then hear invited testimony providing an overview of higher education in Texas.

Community College Day 2015
This year's Community College Day was by far the largest! TACC & CCATT want to express our thanks to all those who came to Austin to tell their "Community College Story!"
Photos of the day can be found on the TACC Facebook page: ... 4231348972
We look forward to even bigger and better Community College Day in 2017...remember, #BetterBeginsHere

Dual Credit Task Force

TACC has created a Task Force to address Dual Credit issues. This new Task Force will take the lead in examing dual credit delivery in the state. Currently, Community Colleges provide more than 95% of all dual credit course across Texas...representing over 100,000 students annually. The Task Force is being Chaired by Dr. Dennis Brown, President of Lee College and is made up of a dozen two-year college leaders.

Texas Success Center

The Dana Center and TACC cordially invite Texas college presidents, along with their vice presidents for academic affairs/instruction, to breakfast on April 20th in conjunction with the AACC annual convention in San Antonio. During the meeting, participants will learn about new student outcome data from the NMP, as well as, progress from the first two years of statewide implementation of the project. Small group discussions will focus on the strategies that support scaling across the state and within colleges. We hope you will join us for this interactive, substantive, and celebratory session!
