The Conference Committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 8:30 am in E1.030. The committee will organize and layout a timeline for its work.
Legislative Committees

House Higher Education

The Committee met last week and among the many bills heard were several related to the expansion of baccalaureate degrees at community colleges. Among those testifying were Dr. Richard Rhodes, TACC Chair and President at Austin Community College; Dr. Pam Anglin, President at Paris Junior College; Dr. Brenda Hellyer, Chancellor at San Jacinto College; Dr. Cesar Maldonado, Chancellor at the Houston Community College System; Dr. Neil Matkin, President at Collin College; and Dr. Joe May, Chancellor at the Dallas County Community College District. All of these bills were left pending in committee.

In other action the committee voted out HB 61 by Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, which is the bill that would require all public institutions of higher education to use the common course numbering system. The bill will now head to the Calendars Committee.

This week, the committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 29th at 8:00 am in E2.014. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills - among these include several of interest to community colleges:

HB 2138 Raney
Relating to the online publication of information regarding campus expenditures made by junior college districts.

HB 2231 Fletcher
Relating to the service areas of certain junior college districts.

HB 2361 Bell
Relating to the service areas of certain junior college districts.

HB 3521 Faircloth
Relating to the establishment of limited purpose public junior college districts by certain independent school districts.



Senate Higher Education

The committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 29th at 9:00 am in E1.012. Among the bills the committee will take up and consider are:

SB 271 Ellis | et al.
Relating to authorization by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for certain public junior colleges to offer baccalaureate degree programs.

SB 1400 Eltife
Relating to authorization by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for certain public junior colleges to offer baccalaureate degree programs.

SB 1810 West
Relating to authorization by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for certain public junior colleges to offer early childhood education baccalaureate degree programs.

CCATT's 2015 ANNUAL CONFERENCE is quickly approaching

This year's event will include pre-conference sessions for trustees. Plan to arrive Friday afternoon to attend these plenaries focused on student success from 4-5:30 then join the CCATT leadership and conference sponsors for a reception until 7:00 pm.

On Saturday morning, the conference will begin at 8:00 am with the launch of the Texas Success: Trustee Leadership Series. This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Uri Treisman of UT's Charles A. Dana Center. The annual business meeting will take place at 3:15 pm to end the conference.


Register today, as the cut-off date for the hotel conference rate of $175/night is May 6th.
