Post Posted: Tue Jan 31, 2017 11:16 am
Sent on behalf of Rex Peebles, Assistant Commissioner; Academic Quality and Workforce Division; Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board

TO: Chancellors/Presidents of Community, State, and Technical Colleges

SUBJECT: Nominations for Individuals to Serve on the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) Advisory Committee

DATE: January 30, 2017

At its January 26, 2017, quarterly meeting, and after a 30-day statewide comment period ending on November 14, 2016, the Coordinating Board adopted the Committee on Academic and Workforce Success recommendation to establish the Workforce Education Course Manual Advisory Committee (WECM Advisory Committee).

I am writing to invite you to nominate by Friday, February 17, 2017, representatives to serve on the WECM Advisory Committee. The committee will be composed of up to 24 individuals from across the state. Pending Coordinating Board approval of the committee’s membership at its April 2017 meeting, the committee’s first meeting will be held in late spring / early summer 2017 at the Coordinating Board’s offices in Austin. The committee will be charged with providing the Board with advice regarding content, structure, currency, and presentation of the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) and its courses; recommendations regarding field engagement in processes, maintenance, and use of the WECM; and assistance in reviewing state policies, procedures, and guidelines.

We are seeking nominees of faculty and administrators from public community, state, and technical colleges with demonstrated leadership in workforce education to serve on the committee. If your institution is interested in nominating a representative to serve on the WECM Advisory Committee, please complete the attached nomination form electronically and submit the form by Friday, February 17, 2017, along with a one- or two-page vitae for the nominee, to Duane Hiller, Program Director for Academic Quality and Workforce Division, at Should you have questions, please contact Mr. Hiller via email or at (512) 427-6440.

Although the Coordinating Board is not able to fund travel or other expenses that might be incurred in connection with the WECM Advisory Committee, we hope that the importance of the committee’s work will encourage your institution’s participation in this nomination process. Remember, an institution could plan for the cost of travel to these meetings in their annual Perkins Basic Grant application.

We look forward to receiving your nomination and to continued work with you, your faculty, and representatives to create clear pathways for student success.
